March 2007 - MRC Motorsport has aquired a black 106 Gti which will form the basis for our new car. The car has already been a rally car but will be taken apart and fully rebuilt over the next few months.
July 2007 - The 106 has now been stripped back to a bare shell and is being seam welded and painted before being rebuilt.
August 2007 - The car has now been painted inside and under the bonnet and is now ready to be put back together.
September 2007 - The re-build work continues on the car with the wiring loom, pedal box, steering column and some of the dash going in.
October 2007
- The re-build work continues on the car with the rollcage, dash and
wiring all now fitted. The front suspension has been re-built and new
wheel bearings installed.
December 2007
- The engine, gearbox, fire extinguisher system, front brakes and
driveshafts are now all in place and we hope to fire up shortly
March 2008 -
We have now completed the bodywork for the car and this will be fitted
shortly, the radiator and rest of the front end has now been fitted
and the gearbox has been filled with oil along with the engine. We are
aiming to fire up this coming weekend.
The car was run for the first time this weekend and ran with no faults or problems. The next stage will be to get it onto its wheels and see if it drives properly.
The car has now been driven for the first time and performed perfectly, the next stage is to book a test venue and get some "proper" mileage on the car.
A test venue has been booked for 10th May and we are hoping the weather will be good so that we can get as much mileage on the car as possible.
